In depth

How this service works on site

Standard cement-based grout absorbs water, stains and grows mould — especially in bathrooms and around kitchen splashbacks. Within 12–24 months most cement grout in wet areas starts to darken, and within 3–5 years it usually needs to be replaced or recoloured.

Two-part epoxy grout (Meifeng) solves this. It's chemically waterproof, doesn't absorb stains, doesn't grow mould, and stays the colour it was installed for the life of the tile. It's also harder than cement grout, so it doesn't crack at corners or shrink away from tile edges.

We strongly recommend an on-site colour selection visit before scheduling. Epoxy grout in person looks different from the catalogue — gloss, metallic and pearl additives in particular need to be seen against your actual tile and lighting. This visit is free and usually takes 30 minutes.

Our process

From drawings to handover

  1. 01

    On-site colour selection (free)

We bring 20+ swatches in standard, metallic and pearl finishes. You see them against your actual tile and lighting. Picks locked in for the install date.

  2. 02

    Tile inspection & schedule confirm

Tile needs to have cured at least 7 days post-install. We check existing grout (if any) for cure state and condition. Schedule confirmed in writing.

  3. 03

    Joint preparation

Existing cement grout is removed or scored to depth. Joints are cleaned of dust and dampness. This step is what determines whether the epoxy bonds for 10+ years or 2.

  4. 04

    Epoxy application

Mixed in small batches (epoxy has a working time of 30–45 minutes per batch). Pressed into joints with a hard rubber float, surface cleaned within 30 minutes.

  5. 05

    Second clean & cure

Second clean at 4–6 hours removes haze. Full chemical cure takes 24–48 hours — surface usable in 24, wet areas in 48.

  6. 06

    Walkthrough & care advice

We walk every joint with the homeowner, confirm finish, and provide care instructions (epoxy needs no sealer, no waxing, no special cleaners).

Why Dun

What sets this service apart

On-site colour selection — always

We won't quote a job without an in-person colour visit. Epoxy looks different from the catalogue, especially metallics. Free for the consult.

Existing grout removed to depth

Cheap operators do a 'recolour' on top of cement grout. That fails in 1–2 years. We score to depth so the epoxy actually bonds to the tile edges.

Anti-mould grade for wet areas

Bathroom and laundry get bathroom-grade epoxy with anti-mould additive. Same colour as the kitchen, different chemistry.

Visible cure schedule

We tell you when it's walkable, when it's wet-area safe, when it's fully cured. Many operators just say 'wait a day' — that's why people end up with grout pulled out of joints.

FAQ

Common questions about this service

Why not just use the cement grout the tiler already installed?

Cement grout costs less but lasts shorter. Most clients call us within 2–3 years to recolour or replace cement grout. Doing epoxy from new costs roughly 3× cement, lasts 4–5× longer, and stays clean.

Can you recolour existing grout instead of replacing?

Surface-only 'recolour' products exist but we don't offer them — they fail in 12–18 months. If your existing grout is failing, the only durable option is to remove and redo with epoxy.

How long after tiling can the grout be installed?

Minimum 7 days, ideally 14–30 days. Past 30 days is fine too — there's no upper limit as long as the tile is clean and dry.

Do you do showers, splashbacks, pool surrounds?

Showers and splashbacks: yes, daily work. Pool surrounds: only above-waterline tiles — chlorinated water requires a different chemistry we don't carry. We'll refer you for pool waterline work.
